Technician and service vehicle inventory

See what every technician carries—and what each part is for.

PorterBase separates warehouse availability from technician-held inventory. Assign general van stock or job-specific parts, record the physical pickup, and keep installed and returned quantities accurate.

For field service teams that stock service vehicles or regularly hand job parts from a warehouse to technicians.

Where inventory breaks down

Van stock is counted as warehouse stock

Assigned inventory leaves warehouse availability and appears under the technician who holds it.

Reserved parts look like they were collected

Ready for Pickup remains distinct from Picked Up, matching the actual warehouse handoff.

Unused parts never return to availability

Return uninstalled quantities to their warehouse with condition and notes, preserving the assignment history.

How it works

A controlled path from stock to outcome.

  1. 1

    Choose the assignment type

Use Van Stock for general vehicle inventory or Job Part when the allocation belongs to a specific service Job ID.

  2. 2

    Reserve at the warehouse

Set Ready for Pickup when the selected quantity is prepared but still physically stored at the warehouse.

  3. 3

    Confirm collection

Mark the entire reservation Picked Up at handoff so office and field views stay synchronized.

  4. 4

    Install or return

Mark full or partial usage, undo mistakes, and return remaining units instead of manually changing stock totals.
