Create or find a part
A part number identifies a part in your workspace. PorterBase normalizes part numbers so small formatting differences do not create accidental duplicates.
- 1Open Quick Add from the sidebar.
- 2Scan with a handheld scanner, use the device camera, or type the part number.
- 3Select an exact or similar result. If no part exists, choose Create New Part.
- 4Add the part name and any optional barcode, category, or cost fields shown for your workspace.
Camera scanning requires browser camera permission. If the camera is unavailable, type the printed barcode or part number instead.
Add stock
- 1Open the part and select Add Stock, or use the action shown after scanning it.
- 2Enter the quantity and choose the item condition: New, Used, or Open Box.
- 3Choose OEM, Aftermarket, or Universal.
- 4Select the warehouse and an optional storage location.
- 5Optionally record the vendor and order date, then save.
Use the part detail page
- Inventory shows quantities by warehouse, location, and individual tracked item.
- Locations shows where the part is stored.
- Activity summarizes lifecycle events for the part.
- Transactions provides the detailed stock ledger, including purchases, assignments, returns, transfers, damage, and losses.
Edit a part safely
Editing a part changes its catalog information; it does not change stock quantity. Use Add Stock, Assign, Return, Remove Stock, or a purchase-order receipt whenever the physical quantity or owner changes.
