How jobs are created
A Job ID connects ordered or assigned parts to field work. PorterBase creates a job automatically the first time a Job ID is used. Job IDs are normalized to uppercase, and a leading # is optional when searching.
Add parts to a job
- Enter a Job ID on a purchase-order line when the part must be ordered.
- Choose Job Part while assigning available warehouse stock to a technician.
- Use the same Job ID consistently for every part that belongs to the same service job.
Understand the job status
The Jobs page derives its status from the earliest unfinished part stage. For example, if one part is installed but another is still Ready for Pickup, the job displays Ready for Pickup. This keeps the next required action visible.
| Status order | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Ordered | At least one required part is still on order. |
| Partially Received | Only part of an ordered quantity has arrived. |
| Received | Received stock has not yet been allocated for pickup. |
| Ready for Pickup | A technician reservation is waiting at the warehouse. |
| Picked Up | The technician has collected the part. |
| Partially Used | Some assigned units have been installed. |
| Installed | All tracked job-part assignments are used. |
Keep technician ownership consistent
Once a job is connected to a technician, receiving additional parts for that Job ID follows the existing technician assignment. This prevents different parts for the same job from being routed to the wrong person.
